1/5/2019 0 Comments I'm a gypsy at heart. I have a little triangle where I tend to go, which is between Sydney, Los Angeles, and London, and I'm happy with that at the moment. ~Elizabeth DebickiSo, while we did walk eight miles on our first day (I'm counting my first day in London as the first day on the syllabus, not my first day getting here. My flight was relatively uneventful and we didn't have trouble getting to the hotel at all) I feel like it's important to talk more about other trips that have prepared me for this one. I picked this specific quote for my title because I think my little 'triangle' so to speak is between Florida, Georgia, and Europe in general.
This trip was definitely the one I was most prepared for packing-wise. I managed to keep my luggage under 50 pounds, which is good because my mom kept prodding at me telling me to bring a bigger one and now I'm glad that I resisted so that I don't have to pay the fee or get another bag. I also feel like my last trip, the one to France/Italy, also gave me a few important tips for this one- namely, keep everything you can't live without in your carry on backpack. Now, let me tell you all what exactly I carried with me in my pack, because this thing was smaller than my laptop, but it held: 2 days worth of clothes, including underwear and socks, fuzzy socks for the plane, 2 packs of travel tissues, all four of my chargers, my universal converter, an umbrella, a pair of gloves, 3 different snacks of various sizes, a sleeping mask, sleeping pills (to ensure my flight was passed in the form of a light coma) 2 packs of makeup wipes, a hair brush, my wallet, a pocket sized notebook, a pencil, and most impressively (to me at least) a quart sized bag literally stuffed full of all my toiletries. For a backpack that is less than half the size of my normal school bag, I was very impressed! This obviously isn't a review of the backpack but I promise this isn't some random tangent, just hear me out. On my last study abroad, I traveled to several different cities and there was a girl who had the misfortune of losing her luggage the very first day of our two week study abroad. Now obviously this wasn't a huge issue, they just sent her luggage off to our hotel while we wandered Paris... except then we moved on to the next hotel, which was in Florence. And then the next one. And then the next. Her suitcase was literally one hotel/day behind us for the entire trip, and she spent half of her money just buying new clothes because we had been told to bring at least one extra day's worth of clothes in case that happened, but it was unprecedented for a suitcase to be lost THE ENTIRE TRIP. This is also important because it should be known that my other study abroad was in JULY in ITALY and it was all a WALKING TOUR OF CHURCHES AND OTHER PLACES WITHOUT A/C and we were all DYING FROM SWEAT to the point where a different girl passed out from dehydration INSIDE THE VATICAN and had to be wheeled about in a wheelchair the rest of the time we were in the church. Anyway, if this was too long and you decided not to read the whole thing: I went on a trip to Italy in July back in high school; It was hotter than Satan's ACTUAL armpits; Some girl lost her suitcase for that ENTIRE TWO WEEK TRIP; And I've been a paranoid packer ever since. This post had relatively little to do with London but that's mostly because I want to write my longer pieces about the markets instead of my Snapshots/Postcards/Whatever you wanna call these. That's all I've got for now... Peace out Cub Scouts!
